The Chicago Cubs, who haven’t won a world championship in 107 years, last week announced the hiring of turnaround artist Joe Maddon, who had resigned from the Tampa Bay Rays two weeks earlier, to replace last season’s Cubs manager Rick Renteria.

Nothing unusual about that. Losing sports teams fire managers and coaches all the time.
